Terracotta — the breathable classic
Unglazed terracotta is porous, so it wicks moisture out of the soil and lets roots breathe. That makes it perfect for succulents, cacti and anyone who waters a little too enthusiastically. The trade-off: soil dries faster, so thirsty plants may need more frequent watering, and the clay can crack in frost (rarely an issue in most of India).
Glazed ceramic — looks and moisture balance
Glazed ceramic gives you colour, shine and decorative detail while holding water longer than bare clay. It's the all-rounder for indoor decorative plants. Just check it has a drainage hole, since the glaze seals the walls.
Plastic & resin — light and practical
Lightweight, shatter-resistant and easy to move, plastic and resin pots are great for railings, hanging displays and big plants you reposition often. Modern resin finishes can convincingly mimic stone or ceramic at a fraction of the weight.
Concrete & stone — heavy-duty stability
Concrete pots are weighty and rugged — exactly what a tall, top-heavy plant needs so it doesn't topple in the wind. They're best left in one spot, since moving them is a workout.
